CASE STUDY
Merchant Taylors’ Prep School
Merchant Taylors’ Prep School, an independent day school in Hertfordshire, had made the decision to overhaul their Design Technology classroom and TaskSpace was selected to redesign and refit the space.
The old DT room had become a little dated and lacked storage space. As with many DT rooms, it contained fixed equipment that is hard to move and difficult to reconfigure – and the lack of storage space often resulted in a build-up of clutter.
Our first job was to reconfigure the room layout to a maximise flexibility and make the absolute most of the space available. Secondly, it was vital to address the lack of storage. We installed cupboards, and sliding tray storage, as well as creating a concealed walk-in tool cupboard in an understairs area.
When it came to installation – we had our work cut out. The room needed the floor, ceiling, and walls renewing, as well as updated decor and brand new furniture. Our team also had to remove all the fixed equipment (apart from the fitted pottery kiln that really couldn’t be moved!) and reinstall it once the room was ready.
The result is a spacious, clutter-free environment that is a pleasure to learn and teach in. Both the team at Merchant Taylors’, and here at TaskSpace are delighted with the finished DT room.
