Lord Wandsworth College
Transforming an underutilised library into a vibrant learning hub
Lord Wandsworth College is a co-educational private School in Hampshire, for day and boarding pupils between the ages of 11-18. The College occupies a 1,200 acre campus and is known for its charitable foundation.
With an ambitious property masterplan, the College is continuously introducing new and innovative building projects, having recently built an outstanding Science Centre – introducing 13 new laboratories alongside collaboration spaces, within an architecturally stunning building.
The challenge
Lord Wandsworth College faced the challenge of revitalising an underutilised library space that had become unfit for purpose in the post-pandemic era. The existing Sixth Form facilities were also outdated, and failing to foster a conducive environment for focused study and collaboration leading to the space being underused.
The solution
TaskSpace collaborated with the College to implement a transformative redesign of the Library into a variety of Sixth Form zones. The goal was to create a dynamic learning hub that catered to the diverse needs of students, cultivating a culture of academic excellence and engagement.
Key design considerations
- Zoned areas for diverse learning needs: the redesigned space incorporated designated areas for quiet individual study, collaborative group work and casual socialising. This zoning strategy ensured that students could find the optimal environment to suit their learning preferences and tasks.
- Café facility: an adaptable Café area was integrated into the design, providing students with a welcoming space to collect drinks and snacks. The Café’s ability to transition into a hospitality venue for events further enhanced its versatility.
TaskSpace created a comprehensive 3D video walk-through that allowed the College team to fully visualise the proposed design and make informed decisions. This immersive experience facilitated collaboration and ensured that the final design aligned with the College’s vision.
Impactful outcomes
Lord Wandsworth College’s transformed facilities have had a significant impact on the College community:
- Enhanced student engagement: the redesigned space has become a hub for active learning, facilitating a vibrant academic culture among sixth form students.
- Improved student satisfaction: since completion, the new design has boosted student satisfaction, with positive feedback highlighting the enhanced learning environment and facilities.
- Boosted productivity and collaboration: the zoned areas have encouraged productive study habits and facilitated effective collaboration among students.
- Empowering learning and engagement: the overall transformation has empowered students to take ownership of their learning journey, providing them with a dynamic environment to thrive.
Conclusion
The successful revitalisation of the Lord Wandsworth College’s Sixth Form facilities stands as a testament to TaskSpace’s expertise in creating transformative learning environments. By collaborating closely with the College and incorporating student feedback, TaskSpace has successfully supported the facilitation of a culture of academic excellence and engagement, empowering students to reach their full potential.
