King’s College Taunton
New 6th Form Building Furniture
King’s College is a co-educational school founded in 1880 that educates students from age 2 – 18, and boasts extensive grounds and facilities in the rural outskirts of Taunton.
The school were looking to create a modern and functional two-storey new-build 6th form block that would rival the best provisions in the country and reflect the school’s commitment to providing the best possible education for its students.
Having laid out the vision of a next-level 6th form space, TaskSpace were involved from an early stage to design the interior and provide furniture and fittings for the building.
Priorities
Working closely with the architect, the following priorities were identified:
- A modern and functional space that is not recognisable as a traditional school interior.
- Quality furniture that complemented the building’s architecture and did not detract from it.
- A ‘Landing Pad’ for students where they could meet and socialise.
- A flexible space for governor, donor, and management meetings.
To realise this ideal, the building showcased several innovative features, including the flexible meeting area with flexible seating and furniture, the café/atrium area that serves as the main social area, classrooms, breakout and coworking areas.
The building was completed in the Lent term of 2022/23, and was completed in time for the students return to school in April.
