TaskSpace was delighted to be selected to revamp the 6th Form area at Rydal Penrhos, a leading independent day and boarding school in the North West. The project required a new energetic design scheme, contemporary furniture and feature flooring.

At Rydal Penrhos, the 6th Form is a pivotal area and seen very much as the ‘grand finale’ for the students before they step forth into the professional world. With this in mind, the brief was to create an open theme, that would allow students to meet and collaborate but also integrate some clearly defined zones which would offer a degree of privacy when needed – as is the case in many contemporary office spaces.

When we received the initial enquiry here at TaskSpace HQ, it actually came from one of the students. The school had not only encouraged their young adults to find a company that specialised in independent school fit out and refurbishments, but also run the fundraising campaign to pay for the work.

The level of trust extended to the students did not stop there – the Head Boy and Head Girl were involved in every step of the creative design process and offered valuable input throughout – another example of how the students at Rydal Penrhos are encouraged to think and behave independently.

The final design scheme is open, bright and contemporary, with a donated grand piano acting as a social hub in the centre of the space. Clearly defined zones are connected by feature walkways and dotted with colourful, comfortable seating. The new space has an integrated student café with bright bistro stools and the entire space is held together with feature flooring.

As the students had raised the money to pay for the new 6th Form themselves, going over budget was not an option. Careful consideration at the design stage and meticulous planning before the project was executed, ensured that the project was delivered on time and budget. Despite the fact that the feature flooring was, as anticipated, complex and difficult to install.

The team and students at Rydal Penrhos are as pleased with the final result as we are here at TaskSpace. We look forward to working with the school again in the near future.
